I thought Professor Griggs’ talk was very interesting and inspiring! One thing I found thought provoking was the tradition of technology exchange that while considered a more ethical business practice inevitably creates competitors. Since technology exchange sounds like a conflict of interest, I wonder how many firms/countries/cultures actually abide by it?
Another thing that stood out to me in Professor Griggs’ talk was how abysmally the US infrastructure was graded. I should have asked what grades the countries with the best infrastructures have. Perhaps there are failing grades everywhere. This is a sobering thought for development. Perhaps this is a motivation to transition from national level infrastructure to community level infrastructure with local energy generation instead of a national grid, etc.
